Racist Couple Sentenced To 35years For Terrorizing Black Family

Kayla Rae Norton, 25, and Jose Ismael Torres, 26, disrupted an African-American child’s eighth birthday party in Douglasville, Georgia. Norton and Torres drove past the party with Confederate flags, as well as shouting racial slurs and armed threats towards the attendees of the party.

Douglas County District Attorney Brian Fortner said in a statement: “Members of the group pulled out a shotgun and pointed it at the victims. They used racial slurs and threatened to kill some of the party-goers. They even threatened to kill children at the party. This is behavior that even supporters of the Confederate battle flag can agree is criminal and shouldn’t be allowed.”

At the time of the crime, Melissa Alford, who hosted the party, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that “if they want to make a statement that these flags mean something to them, I’m OK with that. But you’ve got to do it right. You can’t go around just blatantly terrorizing people.” Although Georgia has no hate crime statute, Norton and Torres were charged under the street gang act, as well as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and multiple counts of terroristic threats.

The pair have now been sentenced following their despicable crimes. Torres was sentenced to 20 years, with 13 years to serve in prison. Norton was given 15 years, with six years to serve in prison. Both Torres and Norton have been ordered to leave Douglas County permanently once their sentences have been completed. The couple are parents to three children but are not married.
